My Favorite Resources For The Summer Before Vet School

My current favorite resource is VIN. I did not take any anatomy classes during undergrad, so I have been feeling a little behind in my anatomy skills. Knowing that anatomy is going to be a huge part of the first year of vet school, and I am not at all quick at memorization, I have started utilizing their 3D Anatomical Models to get ahead.

There is this super cool feature on the website that will quiz you on your knowledge, and it has been a huge help to me so far this summer. If you go to the Student Center on VIN --> 3D Anatomical Models --> then to the body system of your choice, you can start the mini anatomy quizzes by clicking on the Erlenmeyer flask in the bottom right corner.

The Veterinary Information Network (VIN) is available for free to all veterinary students. As soon as I got my UGA email after getting into vet school, I signed up and got a student account. All you have to do is submit your school email and a screenshot that proves your status as a veterinary student, and you're good to go.

I personally love a hardcopy book or magazine, so I searched for a free veterinary magazine subscription. I came across Today's Veterinary Practice, and I have very much enjoyed reading their articles.

Also, once I'm done reading the magazine, I have been using images and words from it in my junk journal, which has been a fun creative outlet.

Another fun resource I have loved for the last year is Dr. Leatrize's Illustrated Comparative Anatomy book. It is so much fun and interactive, with flip up pages that showcase the anatomy of the major species that are covered in vet school.

This book is genuinely the coolest resource I have found because of how detailed it is and how beautiful each and every page is.

Dr. Leatrize's instagram is a great follow! It is

@leatrize.vet.notes, and her art account is @leatrize.art.

Speaking of veterinary creators to follow, a couple of my other favorite veterinary students accounts that I follow on instagram are @vetstudent.jaz and @wildlife.vet.student.

I have also been listening to many podcasts while I am working my administration job at the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Lab this summer. A few of my favorites are...

1) VETgirl Veterinary Continuing Education Podcasts

2) Veterinary Clinical Podcasts by The Royal Veterinary College

3) Vet School Unleashed: Dissecting the DVM.

I'm not putting any pressure on myself this summer to study or anything because a break before jumping into studying a lot of the time for vet school is definitely needed, but, when I feel like it, I have loved utilizing these resources to learn more about the field and stay engaged.
