The Spark of Passion, What Led Me to Veterinary Medicine
My journey to veterinary medicine was a little different than the majority of peoples, but also so similar to many. As a child, I grew up wanting to be a vet, but in middle school I changed my mind and thought human medicine was for me. By the time I was starting college, I was wavering between medical school and law school. Then in school, I discovered my love for organic chemistry and research, and changed course again.
My first and second year of college I was driving forward to go to graduate school for organic chemistry and eventually work in the pharmaceutical industry synthesizing drugs. My second year, I applied to become an orientation leader for the fall on a whim, and I got the position. During training, I had the realization that I was not as passionate about organic chemistry as I once thought. Instead, I was lead to explore other options, and veterinary medicine was one of them.

This is where I leave you to read my first blog post, which includes my personal "Why Veterinary Medicine" essay. My essay elaborates further on how I came full circle back to my childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian.

The Vet School Reality
I hope to showcase the realities of vet school while I am in it. The ups AND downs, don't expect a rose-colored lens filtered view from me. I am very fortunate to be able to say that I will be starting my first year at the University of Georgia's college of veterinary medicine this Fall (Fall 2026)!

My goal at the moment is to explore all avenues of veterinary medicine to find out what I want to specialize in post-graduation, or if I even want to specialize at all.

If I had to pick a specialty right now, it would have to be neurology because that is what I have been the most interested in since my dog, George's, neurological diagnoses. But, honestly, I have no idea what future me will decide to study for life.
